Introduction
Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley is proud to host an annual charity golf tournament to raise funds to promote the Special Olympics mission in the Santa Clarita area. There are currently over four hundred athletes in the 16 sports programs offered by Special Olympics SCV. Funds raised by this tournament and other local efforts go directly to support the outreach of Special Olympics to an ever increasing number of potential special athletes in the Santa Clarita Valley area. Please refer to the main sections of this site for details about the 2007 tournament results, and for opportunities in the upcoming 2008 event scheduled for Monday September 15, 2008. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing them with opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and share their gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. Special Olympics Southern California provides training and competition opportunities by way of one of 33 Local Area Programs throughout Southern California. The Local Area Programs train athletes, hold local competitions, and organize local fundraising activities to support their programs. Through Local Area competitions, athletes qualify to compete in the Chapter events. The Chapter events serve as qualifying events to the World Games, which are held every four years. The World Summer Games and the World Winter Games are similar to the regular Olympic Games by alternating every two years. The video clips contained in the zipped files below illustrate the fun and athletic activities presented by Santa Clarita Valley Special Olympics through funds raised by events such as the Annual Charity Golf Tournament.
